| This is it!! Challenge Number One!!!
"Lights, Camera..........Action!"
This challenge will test your design skills. For this challenge - you are to design a ROOM from any TV Show or Movie.
1. Find a picture of a room from a TV Show or a Movie. The picture should be pretty clear and have good detail (no black and white photos - as color IS important to the challenge).
This is an example of a type of picture NOT to use. There is too much going on with the characters and not enough detail of the room. This is from the TV Show "Home Improvement."
This example is Fine to Use. Plenty of detail of the room is used in this picture. This is from the movie "Something's Gotta Give."
This is another example of a picture you can use. All you see is room, so this is really the best kind of picture to use. This is from the MOVIE of "Sex in the City"
Finding pictures of movie and TV show sets can be a task all it's own, but with plenty of resourcefulness and Googling - you should be able to find a room you want to design.
2. Design a room in your game that looks AS CLOSE to the actual picture from the movie or TV Show as Possible.
3. There is NOT a budget for this challenge.
4. Custom Content CAN BE used. You may design YOUR OWN custom content if you wish. Of course, cheats may also be used (i.e. boolprop, moveobjects on, etc.)
5. NO PORNOGRAPHIC themed rooms.
6. When you are finished designing your room - post a picture of the actual room AND Up to 6 Pictures of the room YOU designed. Name the Movie or TV Show also. Using your Sims in the pictures ARE OPTIONAL - however, your Sims should NOT block vital details to the room.
7. Pictures should NOT be larger than 650 x 650 pixels.
8. ALL Forum members, INCLUDING Moderators are invited to participate in this challenge.
9. All submissions are due by April 30, 2009.
The submissions will be voted on by a panel here at the forum, of 5 judges. The top 3 submissions will be chosen by the panel of judges and then - the voting of the Top 3 will go public to the entire forum. Voting will take place for two weeks after the Top 3 are chosen. The winner chosen by the forum will have the winning picture of their room posted on Basic's Front Page AND be featured for an article in the Basic Newsletter!!!
So......turn on your creativity hats and get to work! Have Fun! We can't WAIT to see your submissions!!!!

| Oh, how fun!!! I just might get in on this one. I need to do a major search though, as I don't watch much tv at all.
I thought I recognized the kitchen from "Something's Gotta Give"! We just watched that movie (again) on Valentine's Day. It's one of my faves. I LOVE IT! (Great house, too...simply GORGEOUS!)
Have you chosen the panel of judges already? I'm thinking it might not be fair if the judges participated in the contest. What do you think?

| I'm glad everyone seems interested in this challenge. I want to answer you Sugah about the panel. Of course I have individuals in mind for judging, but have not finalized who yet. As for whether or not a judge can participate in the contest and fairness in voting.......I believe that since those who are running for President can vote for themselves.......that judges should be eligible to participate as well. I think it's absolutely fair - you may find that a competitor creates something better than your product and NOT vote for yourself anyway. I know for fact that if one of my clothing items was put up against say......Liana - I'd vote for HER! So.....judges are not selected yet - but will be asked soon. And, I think judges CAN compete if they'd like. In the end - the final vote will be BY THE FORUM. | |

| I think that's reasonable, Hunter. I can understand your method of thinking on this.
I, for one, know talent greater than mine when I see it and would be the first one to choose someone I thought was far better at a task than I.
If you are wanting volunteers to judge, I will gladly step up. I don't have to tell you that I will be nothing less than honorable and fair in my judgement.

| If you can find fair judges who would be willing to vote for someone who has done a better job over themselves. Some people wouldn't. But I think most people here would vote fairly.
This sounds like a neat challenge. If I can come up with any kind of inspiration or ideas for what room to do, (and if I can find a picture, I don't always have the best luck with search engines) I'll give it a try.

I totally get what you're meaning about finding fair judges Em - and I'll be sending out PMs later this week asking those who I think would be fair and impartial. Honestly though, I think that everyone at this forum would be - I've yet to meet a sour apple! As for finding pictures for the challenge - THAT itself can be a challenge - but with creativity it can be done. I Googled those and just looked under images - I found a few others that would work perfectly too. I'm debating on whether or not I want to participate........personally I think I suck at trying to recreate real life anything - which is why I don't do REAL PEOPLE Sims. Anyhoo - glad you're interested and I hope you do participate M'Lady.

I agree. I should rephrase what I said to, there's no one here that I would think would vote unfairly. If you decide to participate in this challenge, I think you would do well. I think recreating a real room should be easier than recreating real sims. I've tried making sims of real people and it's tricky to do. If I can find the time and inspiration, I'll definitely participate.

| OMG! Woah, Z! Sensational! I absolutely LOVE your Sims version of the CHARMED living area. Everything looks amazing and you've shown such attention to detail. Bravo, my dear. Excellent work! PS Hunter, I think I found the room I am going to try and recreate. I actually found an exceptional picture of it, but need to make sure of how accurate it is, as IT is a real life reproduction someone did of the place ... not the original room! | |

| Well, upon studying the room I was going to recreate, I've discovered there are a couple of things I am not sure how to make happen. For one, there is a step up onto another level of the room. You know what I mean? My living room here, for example, you take a step down onto. It's sunken, I suppose you'd say. I don't know of a way to recreate that in the Sims, unless I used the small stairs, and that would mean several rather than the one step up.
I might have to find another one. But dang it! I was pretty pumped about the room I was going to attempt. Any suggestions?
